Wellness Wednesday: A Reminder About Balance



Dearly Beloved Denizens, we are gathered here today to witness the union of these nutrients in holy matrimony. Yes folks, today we are here to talk about balance with regards to nutrition. ‘Balance’ can be thought of as one of the central ideas of nutrition, and it applies in many places. First, on a micro level, balancing macronutrients like carbs, fats and proteins increases both fullness as well as overall nutrient consumption (meaning you get a little of everything that your body needs to run smoothly). On a macro level, balance is also an ally. Have you ever heard the expression, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’? The same can be said for nutrition. In the long-run, if you adopt a pattern of eating that is too restrictive, you may be more prone to burn out and therefore not stick to it. I repeat, it is important to allow yourself the occasional treat or celebration. Going to a wedding? Have a piece of cake! Have a Boozy Baby Shower to attend? Have a mimosa! Giving yourself the freedom to enjoy yourself at times when it really matters will make sticking to an overall healthy meal pattern seem more like a choice than a punishment. Just be sure to stay mindful and think before you choose to treat yourself. Then, enjoy!
