Take Pride Tuesday: Team

We’re not just a bunch of coaches here at ILP, we are a TEAM!

A team is a group of people linked in a common purpose. Human teams are especially appropriate for conducting tasks that are high in complexity and have many interdependent subtasks.

Some form of teaming comes naturally to most species. Lionesses hunt in prides; elephants operate in family units to protect each other, find food and nurture their young; fish cooperate to hunt across species (I just found this out – as I typed this article).

Of course, humans form teams too, and have always done so, in a whole variety of ways. But our team results are a lot messier and less consistent than those of animal teams. This is probably because our motivations for teaming are generally a lot more complex and less clear-cut than those of our animal counterparts, and our impulse to team tends to be driven more by conscious choice or organizational mandate than by instinct or hunger.  A group does not necessarily constitute a team. Teams normally have members with complementary skills and generate synergy through a coordinated effort which allows each member to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.

Last weekend the Iron Lion team stepped out of its norm and had its first team BBQ.  Taking ourselves out of the work environment to “let our hair down” sharing stories and getting to know each other while meeting each other’s significant others provided the team a stronger foundation and bond that will help foster an even better environment for not only each other but our fellow den members.

We want our members and staff to feel the support and comradery each time they either come to get stronger or coach our fellow members.  Simply working together doesn’t mean that you are a team, real teamwork implies collaboration, communication and the acknowledgement of a common purpose. At Iron Lion, our purpose is to help promote general physical preparation for life long health.  The better we can be the better we can help serve you!

Cheers to lifelong health and the strong team bond at Iron Lion Performance!
